Answer & solution

Answer: Option A

The total number of units sold is 120+135+150+165=570.

The total cost is 570\times 240=136800.

Profit is revenue minus cost, so the total revenue is 136800+138825=275625.

Writing M for the marked price, each month's selling price per unit is M times 0.80, 0.90, 0.95 and 1.00 respectively.

So the revenue is M\left( 120\times 0.80+135\times 0.90+150\times 0.95+165\times 1.00 \right).

The bracket is 96+121.5+142.5+165=525.

Therefore 525M=275625, giving M=525.

Shortcut. Collapse the four months into one number — the discount-weighted unit count, here 525. The whole question is then a single division, and no month needs handling separately.
