IIMB UG 2027 exam pattern
The IIM Bangalore UG Admissions Test is a computer-based test with 60 multiple-choice questions. Each section has its own clock, as IIMB's admissions document sets out:
| Section | Questions | Time | Per question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation (QADI) | 30 | 60 min | 2 min |
| Logical Reasoning (LR) | 15 | 45 min | 3 min |
| Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) | 15 | 30 min | 2 min |
| Total | 60 | 135 min | 2.25 min |
- Syllabus: NCERT for Classes X, XI and XII, with Mathematics up to Class XII.
- Negative marking: yes, but IIMB has not published the penalty. Reports of the last test mention +3 / −1, a total of 180 marks, so plan on that as a working assumption.
- Positive score rule: you need a positive raw score in all three sections to be considered for the first shortlist.
- What changed: the first test, held in December 2025 for 2026 admissions, ran for 120 minutes. This cycle gives 135, so older timing advice no longer applies.
IIMB UG topic weightage (section-wise)
This is the topic split of the only IIMB UG test written so far, held on 13 December 2025. IIMB has not released an official breakdown. These counts come from GradSquare's student-reported analysis, the one full breakdown we found that adds up to all 60 questions. Other reports differ on some topics, so use it to prioritise, not as a promise.

IIMB UG difficulty analysis
Only one IIMB UG test has been written so far. This is how our team reads the reports of that paper:
| Section | Difficulty | Good attempts | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| VARC | Easy to moderate | 12–15 of 15 | A scoring section. Losing marks here costs you, because few others do. |
| Logical Reasoning | Easy to moderate | 10–12 of 15 | Very mixed topics. The extra 15 minutes this cycle should push attempts higher. |
| QADI | Moderate to difficult, and lengthy | 16–18 of 30 | The hardest section and the one that decides the shortlist. |
Good attempts are from coaching reports of the December 2025 paper, which ran 120 minutes (reported as 30 / 30 / 60). This cycle's 135 minutes gives LR more time and VARC stays at 30, so expect the bar to shift. The actual General shortlist score was 114 out of 180, higher than the 105–110 some pre-result analyses called a good score.
Our team's tips for the IIMB UG test
Our team of teachers has 20+ years of experience preparing students for CAT, IPMAT and other management entrances. Here is what we would do in this paper:
- Build around QADI. It has the strictest cut-off (75th percentile for General), and a strong VARC score cannot make up for missing it.
- Don't neglect LR and VARC. In IIMB's pre-interview score, each is worth 20 points from just 15 questions, while QADI is worth 30 points from 30 questions.
- Get a positive score in every section. A negative raw score in any one section can end your shortlist chances, so don't guess blindly.
- Practise with sectional clocks. You can't carry spare minutes across sections. Take the sample paper in one sitting with the 60 / 45 / 30 split.
- Cover Class XI and XII maths, and train for speed. Reports show DI at 8 of 30 questions and further mathematics at 5, so you can't skip either one, and the section was described as lengthy.
- Manage VARC tightly. With two passages in 30 minutes, keep about 8 minutes per passage and finish the grammar and vocabulary questions quickly.
- Start interview preparation early. The interview carries 40 of the final 100 points, as much as the test itself.
IIMB UG cut-off
Minimum cut-off for 2027 admissions (test on 15 November 2026)
IIMB publishes these minimum percentiles in Annexure I of its admissions process document. They are announced before the test. IIMB may lower them but not raise them, and it notes that candidates called for interview are likely to score higher.
| Category | VARC | LR | QADI | Aggregate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General | 50 | 50 | 75 | 80 |
| NC-OBC | 40 | 40 | 50 | 50 |
| EWS | 40 | 40 | 50 | 50 |
| SC | 25 | 25 | 40 | 40 |
| ST | 20 | 20 | 30 | 30 |
| PwD | 20 | 20 | 30 | 30 |
All figures in this table are percentiles.
Last year's actual cut-off for 2026 admissions (test on 13 December 2025)
The first shortlist from the previous test used a QADI percentile and a total score out of 180, with no separate VARC or LR cut-off. These figures are as reported by Career Launcher and Cracku in January 2026. They are the best guide to the score you should aim for.
| Category | QADI percentile | Total score (out of 180) |
|---|---|---|
| General | 80 | 114 |
| NC-OBC | 75 | 75 |
| EWS | 75 | 78 |
| SC | 70 | 69 |
| ST | 70 | 50 |
| PwD | 70 | 60 |
